While acknowledging the role of President Buhari, the National Christian Elders Forum was more direct about the main source of violence in Nigeria:
"The JIHAD was launched in Nigeria by the Islamists of northern Nigeria, headed by the Fulani ethnic group [the" shepherds "]. In short, Christians are targeted by Boko Haram and Fulani pastors because, to quote Father Valentine Obinna, President Buhari and his Muslim cabinet "want to make sure that the whole country becomes Muslim".
The following quotations show that Father Obinna is not the only one to accuse President Buhari of illegally feeding the jihad against Christians led by the Fulani:

"Almost every day, when I woke up, I found some text messages sent by my associates in Nigeria, like this morning: 'Shepherds stabbed a 49-year-old farmer in Ogan to death," said Ann Buwalda in July an activist and human rights lawyer.
Whenever the mainstream media talk about the violence that is affecting Nigeria, they repeat what was stated by Johnnie Carson, former US secretary of state for African affairs in the Obama administration, after a bomb attack on a Nigerian church on Easter Sunday 2012 in which 40 Christians died. "I want to take this opportunity," Carson declared, "to highlight a key point, namely that religion does not feed extremist violence" in Nigeria.
